About

A professional actress since 1984, Julia has a B.A. from Dartmouth College in Drama and Classics, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1983. Before arriving in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2003, she lived and worked as an actress and copy-editor in New York and Los Angeles, for over 25 years.

In Los Angeles in the early 90s she met and worked with Chris Fields. Chris’s work as a teacher and director, in the lineage of Meisner master-teacher, Fred Kareman, had a powerful impact. Years later, after much personal application and synthesis, she has created her own technique for authentically ‘showing up’ that informs all of her teaching today.

In the Bay Area, Julia works as an actor, teacher, editor, and coach. See her acting resume, here.  She is a company member of PlayGround, and is proud to have participated in the acclaimed Berkeley literary series, First Person Singular.

Julia is a line and copy-editor for independent authors, of both fiction and non-fiction. She is a proud member of the Guest Artist faculty at Tamalpais High School’s CTE theatre program and currently works privately as a coach for solo artists, authors, and others who appear publicly, both in performance-based and personal-appearance formats. Her acclaimed character creation technique 5 Ways In to Character is soon to be available to creators of all kinds, in workbook form.
