One of my wonderful editing clients has won the prestigious Nautilus Book Award, for the book we worked on together!
Her name is Mary Reynolds Thompson
and here is her book:
Reclaiming the Wild Soul cover with AwardSeal
I am so proud of her,  and am deeply affected by her work.
I feel privileged to have been even a small part of her book’s arrival in and impact on the world.
Check out her website.
Her books, her newsletters and courses may easily have a significant and transformative effect on your life.

Congratulations, Mary!

Here’s what Mary says about our work together:

“Entrusting an editor with your manuscript is a momentous decision. Thank goodness, I made the right one. Julia McNeal is a virtuoso when it comes to voice. She understands the unique rhythms, syntax, and flow of a particular writer, and then works to bring those qualities out with greatest clarity and effect. During the editing process, I felt held and seen in the most beautiful ways. I can’t recommend her sensitive and deft editing skills highly enough.

––Mary Reynolds Thompson, author of Reclaiming the Wild Soul: How Earth’s Landscapes Restore Us to Wholeness (Nautilus Award Winner, 2015)

Author and Business Coach, Christy Strauch:

I work with some truly talented voices in all areas of my work.  And I thought you should hear from them directly.  I want to promote both my work on this site, and theirs.  So I’m going to feature one client, bi-monthly, and have them talk about what they do, why they do it, and how they feel they benefitted from our work together.

Here is my interview with our first Featured Client, Author and Business Coach, Christy Strauch.  I was an editor on her first three books.

Enjoy!

Julia:  What would you most like people reading this to know about your books and what you hope they will do for your readers/ the world at large?

Christy:  It is possible, and highly doable to have a prosperous business doing the work you love. And, even when you do love your work, you can’t escape working on your business—on the marketing and the numbers.  A prosperous business doesn’t happen by magic fairy dust, but the working to make it happen can be fun!

What’s interesting, though, is working with business owners on numbers and marketing, we often discover deeper blocks. Regardless of the blocks, I want people to know this: they can create a successful business, and this includes knowing about their marketing and numbers.  It doesn’t take a special personality or luck to do this in a way that is fully congruent with who they are.

…On a deeper level, this is my contribution to the world.  People doing what they were put on the planet to do, and creating jobs for others, helps create world peace. I know that sounds sort of goofy, but doing work you love, that produces a prosperous living is one of the most satisfying experiences of life.

I’m not making that up.  The man who immolated himself recently, in Tunisia, was heard to say, as he set himself on fire, “I just want to work!”

People want and need to do meaningful work.

My books, and everything I do professionally, are intended to meet that necessary desire.

Julia:  Say something about writing and what it means to you.

Christy: I like to take lots of different ideas, from different realms/places and synthesize them in a way that makes sense in a useful, applicable, new way.  The books I write are about explaining complex concepts in digestible, easy-to-understand ways.

Julia: How did you benefit from hiring/working with me?

Christy:   Working with you helped me clarify my thoughts and express them in the most direct way.

You took away the second word, where one word would do.

You read the books with an objective eye, as if you were the reader, and gave me feedback from the  perspective of the reader, as well as the editor.

You are a crucial part of my publishing team.
